WEEK 6 Summer Miles (PRD)

WEEK 6 Summer Miles (PRD)

Determination and Grit!

Can you FEEL it? Can you? SO excited for the (BCCR)
Big Cottonwood Canyon Run!!

This run will CHALLENGE us! it will PUSH us! it will IGNITE us!
it will UNITE us!

The HOPI tribe located in the North East part of Arizona have a saying, it is "Nahongvita", Na-Hong-Vita
Which means "Stay Strong" or "Dig Deep"

These canyon runs WILL require each of us to "Dig Deep" and to "Stay Strong." This is the run that we want you to PUSH yourself up the run. We will time you on Friday, Monday will be a practice so you all know what the run will be.

PUSH hard going up but come DOWN in control so as to NOT cause any injuries.

A lot of you are continuing to PUSH yourselves and are running some great Summer Miles! Keep it up. Those that might have been struggling, let us know what we can do to help encourage and motivate you.

Keep your "GRIT" up. To have grit means you have courage and show the strength of your character. .A person with true grit has passion and perseverance. Goals are set and followed through. A person who works really hard to follow through on commitments has true grit.

Each one of you HAS "Grit." As we continue to RUN our SUMMER Miles, we HOPE that your passion, perseverance and Grit will rise and PUSH all of us, springing us forward to experience some AMAZING fulfillments as it pertains to running.

Take a chance on yourself, As coaches we are taking that chance with on you! That's why we so spend SO much time on this program, with you during the summer, during the week, we are here for you everyday! Why? We know deep down inside that it is worth it, Every single one of you! is worth it!!

Take a look at the TWO videos below. One is on "GRIT"
The other is on TRAIL running.

We ARE excited about ALL the hard work that is being put in by ALL of you! We are excited about this upcoming SEASON!

"Nahongvita", Na-Hong-Vita

WEEK 5 Summer Miles (PRD)

WEEK 5 Summer Miles (PRD)

Blessed to be A RUNNER!!!

FiRsT oF aLl hApPy FaThErS dAy! To AlL daDs AnD tO aLl FaThErS!! Below is a video Honoring FATHERS!!

I have been reminiscing on PAST memories. For 16 Summers I worked in ALASKA. 16 to 18 hour DAYS, knee deep in processing SALMON. Every year workers would TRAVEL to Alaska from ALL over the world. From, Russia, Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, Columbia, all over North and South America.
With all the Craziness going on in the world TODAY, it got me thinking. Having workers come to Alaska from ALL over the world to work. We had to UNDERSTAND how we each processed information, communicated. and what each of us had experienced in our lives, and respect each others' culture etc.
By so doing, we were able to take a LARGE number of people that had little to no knowledge of each other and we were able to BLEND together, work together, laugh together, discuss differences together, and when the season ended we were able to cry together knowing that saying "Goodbye" to a friend is a hard thing to do, especially knowing that you might not EVER see each other again. (Some would come back a few years in a row, while others in was a one time deal)
I have forged some long lasting friendships and memories over those 16 years. Stories and experiences that I will NEVER forget and many that NO ONE will EVER believe, but I know that they happened and that they were REAL.
Coaching has had a similar IMPACT on my life. Each and every year we have NEW runners come out and JOIN the team, We also have returning runners, and occasionally we have a runner that will run only one year.
Regardless of how long a runner runs on the team, I hope that we ALL will help in making the experience for ALL runners something that they will fondly look back and reminisce, smiling thinking about stories and experiences they had while being a part of THIS team.
My hope is that we continue to work HARD, include ALL that RUN, and create some LASTING memories, friendships, and moments that will FOREVER keep us smiling in our hearts and minds.
Every MEMBER of this team MATTERS and is VITAL and IMPORTANT to our success as a team and as an Individual.
May we find JOY in the JOURNEY.

Against ALL the ODDS that we are facing dealing with and ALL that is going on, let's KEEP putting in the HARD work. NEVER GIVE UP!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Fight, Dig in, Go to WORK!
There is STRENTH in NUMBERS!!

I'm PROUD and HONORED to be a PART of the SPARTAN XC TEAM!! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!

Week 4 Summer Miles (PRD)

Keep Focused!

During these current moments of uncertainty. We NEED to STAY FOCUSED on our GOALS. Your GOALS, Your DREAMS, Your ASPERATIONS, and Your DEDICATION.

I want to share with you some TRAITS of a Champion. By getting out and RUNNING this is the START of how YOU can be ONE! (A champion)

The 10 Traits of Champion And How You Can Be One

All great athletes have certain qualities in common. In fact, superstars in any field, whether it is in sports, business or even investment, have common traits they all share that turn them into champions. And if you learn these traits, you can become a champion in your own field as well.

However, let me warn you, it is not a easy task to compete with the rest of the world and to become a champion in people’s heart. A lot of hard work, dedication, commitment, setback, consistency and discipline involve in the journey to becoming a champion.

And remember this, it is hard, that is why you want to go for it to become a champion. If it is easy, everyone could do it and there will be no different between an ordinary person, and the extraordinary one. People are able to achieve outstanding results and to be called “EXTRAordinary” because they are willing to do the EXTRA work. So, are you ready?

1. Big Dreams

All champions have a big dream. For those athletes that made it to the Olympic, do you know that they set their goal so high that they have to work so hard for 4 straight years just for the few days, few hours, or some even few minutes of competition? They definitely won’t make it to the Olympic if they did not have a strong faith with their dream. They dream big and they dare to dream. They dare to commit and say that they must get to the Olympic.

What about you? What do you want to achieve and what is your dream? What do you want to accomplish in running? Life? Things will start to work only when you DECIDE on what you want out of your life.

2. Extreme Confidence

Champions believe in their capabilities and know what they can do. They maintain this sense of self even under pressure or when things are not going well. They remind themselves they have succeeded in tougher times than these. Do you have the extreme confidence to go through the journey? It may be difficult especially in the beginning where you don’t have any result to show. However, you must always believe in yourself. You just need to have the confidence to win every small battle, and this will eventually build up the momentum, gives you more confidence to go for the big battle.

3. The Willingness To Learn

Every great athlete has a coach. Champions are coach able. They are willing to listen and learn. Especially when times are tough or when they are facing a difficult opponent, the ability of a coach will become extremely crucial. Champions are willing seek help and get feedback from others. Everyone can become a champion, if you are willing to learn.

4. Extraordinary Determination and Commitment

Yes, champions have extraordinary determination and commitment toward what they want. WHAT DO YOU WANT? You MUST believe yourself, you MUST be determined, dream BIG and BE commitment toward achieving it. It will NOT be an easy journey. There will be a lot of people laugh at you, look down on you, saying that you’re crazy, etc, but never ever give up on your dreams and your goals.

So just go for it. Remember Bruce Lee‘s quote? “To heck with circumstances, I create opportunity.”

These are 4 of 10 that we will share with you. Nest week will be numbers 5-8.

We ARE proud you ALL of you!! Continue with your HARD work and DEDICATION!! KEEP encouraging each other!! SUPPORT each other!

Keep FOCUSED in the GOAL of improving you during these SUMMER MILES! These miles WILL make a “BIG” difference in your personal performance, attitude, and belief in YOURSELF!

We believe in YOU!!!!

To clarify, not everyone may know what we count as summer running, so please pay attention.

if you need to be biking (injury or just a change), YOU CAN ONLY COUNT 1/4th of your biking miles as running miles.  So, if you did an 8-mile bike ride, then you MUST put on Strava that you did miles.

Hiking and walking are not running.  They do not count as summer running miles, and do not create the same effect on our bodies as running does.

NOW, THERE ARE SITUATIONS THAT YOU MAY NOT HAVE A CHOICE...please talk to us, and of course we work around situations that come up such as: vacations, some camps, we have allowed those miles, or other situations...

just talk to us Coaches and we will help you!

HYDRATE!! HYDRATE!! HYDRATE!! This is CRUCIAL that ALL of you are drinking WATER! This is the time to prepare and hydrate yourself in preparation for the upcoming “HOT” months.

WE hope that we are able to SEE you at Practice!!

REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR SIGNED FORMS!

Keep up the AWESOME Miles!! It will be worth it!! TRUST US!!!
