Week 10 Summer Miles (PRD)

Week 10 Summer Miles (PRD)

TEAM SPIRIT (SPARTAN SPIRIT!!!)

Team Spirit will KEEP you running at your BEST!!

Running is an individual sport. (within a TEAM concept)

What is Running?  It is the physical act of moving your feet in a fast, rhythmic motion to propel yourself forward at a greater speed than if you were walking or jogging.

It is up to you to put on your running gear, go outside, and run. It is up to YOU to help motivate and push your teammates. This is our responsibility on this team!

Who and What Motivates you?

For me it has been ALL my friends/Teammates that I have had throughout ALL my years of running. At Cross Country or track meets, for me is kind of like a high school/college reunion. I’m so blessed to be able to still associate with many of my best friends that have chosen coaching as a profession. We also continue to share the GREAT passion for running. WE all run with the teams with coach. Other times we get together to run in races like Ragnar, 5k’s to Marathons and everything in between, I have also been blessed to have ran many of these same races with graduate runners who continue to run which motivates me.

Another GREAT motivator for me is Billy Mills (1964 10,000-meter Gold Medal Champion) I had the tremendous opportunity to not only hear Billy Mills speak, but I was honored with some one-on-one time with him. I had my picture taken with him and some runners that came with me. I also had him sign my copy of the movie “Running Brave” the Billy Mills story.

See the Video below to hear more about Billy Mills Story.

Now a few Questions for ALL of you?

ASK YOURSELF: WHO INSPIRES YOU?

What makes you lace up your shoes and run? You need motivation? My motivation comes from all the runners that I have ran with and coached. They are my role models.

As runners we can identify with each other, and we can make it if we keep working at it. When I run with this team, you all motivate me to train a little harder every time we run together. So, if you are looking for new motivation to go running, ask yourself: who inspires you? Whoever it is, think about this person the next time you are struggling to get out the door for a run.

           FIND PEOPLE TO PUSH YOU!

Besides role models, every runner has run with someone faster who pushed them into a new gear. Training with others should challenge you to go faster, to push harder in every run. But it’s not just the stronger people we can learn from. Every team member makes a valuable contribution to a team.

No matter who you train or run with there is always something that we can learn from each other.

               GET MOTIVATED BY

            YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM!!

Don’t forget the part of a team that not doesn’t run – the team behind the team. They are my friends, family, and supporters.

Hearing your Teammates, Friends and Family during the run by encouraging you and cheering you on helps push you forward, giving you motivation to Give it Your ALL and finish strong!

None of us would be where we are today without our support team.

There is a real team spirit to running. I have learned we don’t run by ourselves. We run as we practice, together being a part of a team, always supporting each other during the race.

Indeed, what can seem like an individual sport is actually a team effort, a family!!

Keep up the GREAT work!!! Look out 2020 XC Season here WE COME!!!

Week 9 Summer Miles (PRD)

Week 9 Summer Miles (PRD)

Uncertainties?

Uncertainty refers to epistemic situations involving imperfect or unknown information. It applies to predictions of future events, to physical measurements that are already made, or to the unknown.

Life is full of uncertainties, as with any year or season but especially this upcoming season.

We MUST TRUST the PROCESS!

Why “Trust the Process” Is Life Changing Advice

We all go through times in our lives that are like the end of last school year. We endure dark days where we feel as though we just can’t win. Be it in our relationships, our jobs, or our own personal endeavors, life can be an extremely difficult test. What’s more is that life most certainly isn’t fair. Circumstances happen, whether in or out of OUR control. Things JUST happen. Life is the same way. It’s never going to relent. It will never stop trying to beat you down. The will to rise above and succeed comes from within, and sometimes you must be torn down to the very bottom in order to rebuild.

Life is a journey. Life is a process. And the beauty of life lies within the process. Learn to appreciate the process. Embrace the process. Trust the process. Each one of us has our own journey to take, and the road is far from straight and paved. “We cannot remake ourselves without suffering, for we are both the marble and the sculptor.” When you are in a period of your life where you simply can’t seem to get ahead or pull yourself up, keep your head up and embrace the daily grind. Stay focused on what’s in front of you and do what you have to do one day at a time. It sucks, but every action you do helps bring you one millimeter closer to your goals. Start stringing together those little actions every day, and you can start your own Process.

In the end, the satisfaction of knowing that you put in all the hard work it took to get to where you want to be is just as fulfilling as the result.

Often, things get worse before they get better. Stay strong (SPARTAN STRONG) and trust the process.

We must stay FOCUSED and show GRIT!!

Grit courage and resolve; strength of character.

Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term and meaningful goals.

It is the ability to persist in something you feel passionate about and persevere when you face obstacles. This kind of passion is not about intense emotions or infatuation. It’s about having direction and commitment. When you have this kind of passion, you can stay committed to a task that may be difficult or boring.

Grit is also about perseverance. To persevere means to stick with it; to continue working hard even after experiencing difficulty or failure.

Grit is important because it is a driver of achievement and success, independent of and beyond what talent and intelligence contribute. Being naturally smart and talented are great, but to truly do well and thrive, we need the ability to persevere. Without grit, talent may be nothing more than unmet potential. It is only with effort that talent becomes a skill that leads to success

KEEP doing the WORK!! KEEP running the MILES!! KEEP supporting EACH OTHER!

TRUST the PROCESS! Show GRIT!!! GOOD things WILL happen.

We believe in YOU! WE care about YOU!!

WE ARE MURRAY!!!

FIND YOUR GREATNESS!!!!

All great athletes have certain qualities in common.

The 10 Traits of Champion And How You Can Be One Traits 5-10

5. Take Massive and Consistent Action

You must train every single day in order to be extraordinary. Lionel Messi once said this to a reporter, “I start early and I stay late, day after day, year after year. It took me 17 years and 114 days to become an overnight success.”

You see, becoming a champion is not about being lucky.

Even if you’re lucky and get promoted or suddenly strike a successful business, if you don’t have the necessary skills and traits of a champion, you will stay there for long. And the only way to become a real champion is through massive and consistent action. If you spend the time long enough to master in something, you will eventually become a champion at it.

6. The Passion Is the Key

Being passionate is totally different than daydreaming about what you love but do nothing. My definition of passion is that if you are truly passionate with what you really love, you will spend time doing it and you will spend time perfecting your skills there because you just love it and you wanted to do it better than others.

So, if you are passionate about something but are not willing to act on it, maybe it is not something that you’re truly passionate in. Perhaps it is just your hobby and you have confused it with your passion. Passion is something that will catch your attention and make you work on it. It is something that you love doing and would sacrifice other things for it. So, are you passionate with what you do?

7. Sacrifice and Discipline

What most people never see is the sacrifice and the many hours of time spent building one’s self. You will reap what you sow. There’s a very powerful quote to describe this, “Being a champion means living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”

You need to sacrifice your free time, your play time and to have the discipline to work hard on your goals. When you spend time partying and enjoying your fun time, someone out there is working hard to get to the place where you want to go. It may not be easy, but if you have the passion, things can be exciting for you.

8. Turn Failure into Feedback

Yes, champions are human beings and they do make mistakes at times. The difference between a champion and an ordinary person is that an ordinary person will take failure as failure.

Ordinary person: They set goals, face some setbacks, fail to get the results that they want, they throw in the towel and they quit in the end.

Champion: they set goals, face some setbacks, fail to get the results that they want, they turn the failure into feedback, change their strategy and they act again. They repeat to act and improve their strategies until they become a champion.

Remember, every single person in this world does make some mistakes some of the time. The key is how you deal with the failure. If you look at it as failure, it will defeat your confidence level and you will eventually give up and quit. Champion look at it differently. They take it as a challenge, and they will do whatever it takes to accomplish what they set out for. For the champion, if others can do it, they can do it as well.

9. Composure, Poise and Presence

You can tell if someone possess the quality of a champion whenever you meet them. A champion talk’s differently, they think differently, and they act differently than normal people. They have their own composure, poise and presence. They will maintain balance under the most extreme adversity. They do not panic. They can focus, stay relaxed and continue to walk the walk. They stay positive and act confidently to handle stress.

10. Never Give Up

There’s no giving up. Once you have decided to become the champion in your field, there will be no giving up. If you give up, you will never become the champion you want to be. A quitter will never win, and a winner will never quit.

You must understand that all the obstacles and setbacks that happen to you happened to someone else too. If you cannot stand and overcome the difficulties, you will never qualify to be a champion.

Success will never happen by luck. It is through the hard work, the dedication and the commitment that shape who you are.

These are the 10 traits of a champion. You may not able to learn and adopt them all in a day. You will need to go through the journey in order to become who you meant to be. It is the journey that will shape your character and it is the journey that will bring you the result you desire.

Week 7 Summer Miles (PRD)

Week 7 Summer Miles (PRD)

EFFORT!!!!!

Great Job this PAST week! Keep up the GREAT work!!

July 3rd, 2020, we had our 1st BCCR Run. What a great turn out! PLEASE try and make it to the next BCCR run on Friday July 10th.

Remember we have the 2nd BCCR (Big Cottonwood Canyon Run) this Friday. Those that went on the 3rd of July know the Course to run.

Times for the BCCR run are; Boy’s under 15 minutes, Girl’s under 19 minutes. (This is the Goal! these are also the times to run under to receive a FREE BCCR shirt!!)

In July we will ha e TWO days that we will increase our pace running. One is Tuesdays (800's at Murray park) and Friday's BCCR run. These are Pivotal practices to attend. WE not only bond as a team but we help to encourage and push each other. The season is coming soon. WE will be having a parent meeting at the end of July, WE will let you know the time and place soon, so you can fit it in to your schedules.

We are SO proud of ALL the work and miles that are being put in. Continue to push yourself and others. We are in this together!!

I will not be here on Tuesday through Friday (Family reunion in Colorado).  PLEASE help each other and make it happen this week. Take care of each other! Be patient! Be smart and hydrate, sleep, eat better 😊 Be there for each other!

Just a reminder to ALL of you. HARC (High altitude Running Camp) considerations will be happening very soon. (checking to see if you are up to date and have the miles) Because of the current situation with the Virus. In order to make HARC happen, there will be a few extra steps that must be taken to insure everyone’s safety and ability to go. Here is your kindly reminder of what is necessary to go to HARC.

You ALL need to be putting on your miles on the Google Document on this blog entitled 2020 Summer Miles. It is in the LINKS section. PLEASE update your miles. In order to be considered for (HARC). You MUST be on track for 500 miles for the Summer (Memorial Day and Labor Day) on the 2020 Summer Miles Google Document you should have 216 Miles by today the End of week 6 in order to be considered for HARC.

6 weeks X 36 Miles = 216 Miles.  To be considered not guaranteed a spot.

Not having your miles updated on the BLOG will automatically take you out of the running for HARC…it doesn’t matter what level of runner you are or if you have run the miles. As Coaches, we can’t see the miles because they are not on the BLOG. Don’t assume that you get to go unless we see that the first step is done. (Putting your miles on the BLOG)

Exceptions to the miles we should already be aware about (injuries and such)

If you get an invitation your parents (mom, dad, Guardian) must be aware of the possibility of you going, so if you get the invitation you will already know that they are OK with it.

HARC will be during the Day only NO Overnight.

HARC is Aug 3-6 There will be a ZOOM meeting for ALL those invited to HARC on Monday July 6th. 2020 at 8PM an invitation will be sent out to those qualified for HARC.

Transportation- Due to the circumstances, we as Coaches CANNOT transport to the HOME BASE (camp) up big cottonwood. We also CANNOT transport you to and from HOME BASE (Camp) to the runs each day. (You must line up Transportation to get there and back) This will be discussed in detail with those invited to HARC.

Not everyone on the TEAM is able to go to HARC. This is an amazing opportunity that MUST be earned. Earned buy doing the things to get there.

HARC is about rewarding, NOT punishing those who aren’t quite ready for the experience. This aspect matters to US because EVERYONE on this TEAM matters to US!

You are ALL doing some amazing things this Summer! As Coaches' some of our greatest moments are seeing you CHALLENGE yourselves., and seeing the growth, improvements and hopefully you are feeling the difference that the summers miles is having on you and your performance.

We SEE you! WE are PROUD of you! We are EXCITED for what will RESULT in all your efforts this Summer! EFFORT!! Define your Success! Have you given it ALL your Effort and your ALL? No Regrets!!
